Niagara's South Shore doesn't get the same attention its world-famous waterfall and wineries get, but it's a fantastic boating destination. Whether it be fishing, sunset cruises or one of the last drive-on beaches in Canada, Port Colborne is one of Ontario's best kept secrets!
The North Channel (between Manitoulin Island and the mainland) is considered by many to be the best freshwater cruising ground in the world. Rugged beauty, clear water, warm summers and marine-facing communities and resorts make this a boater's paradise. But it's not just for cruisers. You can enjoy the big waters in a smaller boat, even on a multi-day trip thanks to waterfront hotel options.
Linking Lake Ontario and Lake Erie, it's primarily used by commercial ships including Seaway Max freighters that are 700-feet long but a few hundred recreational vessels go through every year. It can be a bit intimidating but definitely something the average boater can handle!
